Double Up: Layering Two Jackets

We all know the importance of trying new things. Since New Year’s we’ve been inundated with resolutions and all that new year, new me stuff. I think it’s also important to look at what you already have and rework it. Take my new favourite winter dressing trick, layering two jackets.

It’s actually something I started doing because of work. I work on the second lowest floor of an old building and the heat does not circulate well. Once the freezing temperatures hit, it got so cold that I’d have to work in my coat. I saw other girls wearing leather jackets under their dusters and decided to put my own spin on it. I love the result – it breathes new life into the jackets.

This doesn’t just go for clothes – it’s something that can be applied to every aspect of your life. Sometimes we try something once, put it in a box, and never revisit it.ย I was so guilty of doing this for the longest time, and I was missing out.

Last year I made an effort to step outside of my comfort zone and try new things, but I also re-tried old things. And guess what? I learned a lot of new things. They say it’s all about finding balance, and I think life should be a balance of new and old. If we constantly chase after newness we’ll always be stressed and unsatisfied, but if we just stick to what we know there’s no growth.

I’m excited about all the new things to comeย this year. New places (my boyfriend and I booked our first trip of the year to Mexico on the weekend, yay!), new clothes and outfits I’ll wear, new movies and shows, new songs, new food, maybe a new hair colour (though I’m really loving this one). But I’m also excited about the old. The new things I can create and the new experiences I can have from it.

So here’s to the new year, and to all the great old stuff that came along with it.

I think layering jackets is SUCH a good idea. I did it last year in February during fashion week because it was FREEZING. Legit, subzero temps with windchill making things even harder. I started putting on my husbands wool coat over other warm jackets and the trick saved me.

This winter I’ve worn my skiing jacket under a more “fashionable” puffer coat.

Enjoy Mexico girl!! It’s so exciting to be able to get away somewhere warm!

Right? We’ve been having a freezing winter with subzero temps, I’ve had to wear thermal undies and everything, but layering jackets makes such a difference. Sometimes sweaters are not enough.

Thank you! I’m really excited, I haven’t had a proper tropical vacation in forever x

I loved loved LOVED this article. I think it really described well your style evolution this year. I loved seeing you getting out of your comfort zone: in terms of style, writing and blogging!! I also think the new year new me is so stupid, and that the best way to reinvent ourselves is often going back to our roots. Loved also the layering! I am doing the same because… The cold aahahaha! Love you always babe

Thanks Neguine! It means a lot you like my writing, I’ve been trying to open up more and branch out from just fashion. Hope it warms up for you guys soon! xx

YES! We love this trend right now! We’re going to Big Sky next weekend and will probably layer 5 jackets because we hate cold weather LOL!

Haha good call! Desperate (aka cold) times call for desperate measures x

  • Alia

Loved the layering! The pictures are amazing..

  • Rina

I love that you layered two jackets. I’ve done this on really cold days where I still want to wear a lighter jacket indoors but need the warmth of a thicker jacket when outdoors. It works really well!

It does! I prefer wearing 2 thicker layers than a million thin ones.
